The final race in the Miway Big 5 - the Kwambo Lion Race - ROAR! After the catastrophic events of the last race at Monzi, we were looking forward to some local riding on a lovely single track, with hopefully not a thorn in sight.
You may not have heard of Kwambonambi before, which would leave some of it's residents speechless. It's just a hop, skip and a jump past William's school, and as evidenced by a common car sticker in the region, is in fact a destination of international repute.
William and I had been on a horse ride earlier in the week, and unfortunately, his horse, Candy decided to buck him off, sending him flying into the adjacent thorny bushland. Luckily, nothing broken, but he came off a little worse for wear, and somewhat gun shy of anything with a saddle. Consequently, a bike ride was certainly not on his agenda, so we kept the food and coffee vendors busy while Simon went back to his standard ride of 25km.

There was anticipation all round for the final ride of the series and with the weather gods letting rip the night before the race, the beautiful track became somewhat of a muddy quagmire. Despite the inclement weather, there was another big turnout, with some arriving more prepared for the conditions than others...

And so...
...and so, that's it for the Miway Big 5 for 2013. With plenty of laughter, occasional tears, several misunderstandings, a multitude of punctures and many egg and bacon rolls later we all arrived at the end. Maybe next year we might even get a few bike rides in?
